Visa Flex Card

Intentional Motion

This self-initiated project was a personal exploration in studio-style replication, inspired by a professional campaign created by a motion design studio I admire. The goal was to recreate the look and feel of the original spot — featuring a Visa Flex card placed in a surreal desert landscape, with a rainbow-like refractive light streak passing over it — as a way to demonstrate my technical and creative alignment with their visual language.

The Challenge Awaits

What if… I could land an internship by recreating a studio’s work, purely out of passion? This personal project was born from a bold idea: replicate a piece from Daybreak Studio’s portfolio to catch their eye—even though they weren’t hiring. I set my sights on their Visa Flex Card design, ready to prove my skills and dedication through action, not just words.

The Conflict

Recreating without the recipe.

Without access to their exact assets, I had to get crafty. I built the card’s background from scratch, found close-enough typography, and designed a full procedural desert scene to match theirs. The biggest hurdle? Recreating their stunning rainbow lighting effect—despite being a total Redshift beginner.

Searching for the One

Sometimes the right project finds you first.

It didn’t take long to find the project— I knew instantly the Visa Flex Card post was the one. It struck the balance between simplicity in form and complexity in polish. Aesthetically, it spoke to me, and I knew the challenge would push me in the right ways.

Bringing Ideas to Life

From digital dunes to glowing gradients—every detail mattered.

I created a procedural desert from scratch, used custom Noise textures to mimic the card’s backdrop, and crafted an accurate- looking design in Illustrator. The trickiest part— animating that rainbow light— was solved through research and creative problem-solving with Redshift’s node system.

Testing the Magic

An experiment in aesthetics— with feedback that made it all worth it.

Although I got input from friends and family, the most rewarding moment was hearing back from Daybreak’s Associate Creative Director. She called my initiative “pleasantly surprising” and acknowledged the intentionality behind my work—even if the role wasn’t available.

The Destination

Didn’t get the job— got something even better: clarity, courage, and craft.

Even without an internship offer, I walked away proud. I tackled a professional-style piece, deepened my technical toolkit, and pushed myself to new levels of polish and persistence. That glowing reply? The cherry on top.

Reflection on Journey

Trying to recreate someone else’s work gave me a unique perspective— it tested my eye for detail and my ability to adapt. This project was more than a challenge; it was a moment of self-validation and a milestone in my growth as a motion designer.
